This course is designed to help handler and dog acquire and fine tune the skills needed to pass the Delta Society Pet Partner Skills and Aptitude Evaluation.
Prerequisites: In order to be eligible for Pet Therapy class,
a dog should be mature and have a stable, friendly temperament; dogs that show any type of
aggression will not be allowed into the class. The course is open only to dogs that have
completed NDTC's Level II (or a higher-leve)l Obedience Class, or the equivalent elsewhere,
within the ninety days before the start of a Pet Therapy Class. Dogs must also have earned
their AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Certification (must provide a copy to the registrar)
before they can be placed on the waiting list. (All NDTC classes require proof of current
rabies vaccination for dogs age six months or older.)
Pet Therapy Class registrants are required to attend a readiness screening with their
dog in order to be admitted to the class (screening may be waived at the discretion of the
instructor). The readiness screenings will usually be given during the week before a new class
starts (registrants will be given an appointment time and feedback will be shared at the time
of screening).
