ADVANCED OBEDIENCE

Heel, Jump and Retrieve

In this class, students will continue to work on their heeling skills, and will also be introduced to skills that are used in the advanced AKC Obedience classes (Open and Utility), including:

  1. taking/retrieving a dumbell
  2. jumping over the high jump, bar jump and broad jump
  3. introduction to go-outs and directed jumping
  4. introduction to hand signals
  5. introduction to directed retrieving

Students may want to repeat this class several times, as the skills that are taugh each session will vary based on the skill level of the teams in the class. Not all skills will be able to be taught in each session. Students may also be interested in taking another class (Level 3 or Level 4) to round out their training. Those not intending to compete may still enjoy learning these exercises, and their dogs can benefit from the increased precision and the deeper level of bonding that will take place. This class will help to prepare students for the Beginner Open and Beginner Utility classes.

Prerequisites: Completion of at least one Level 3 session with recommendation of the Level 3 instructor OR the insructor's permission.
